Magic: The Gathering tips on deck building
Here are some tips on building decks for Magic: The Gathering. MTG is a card game that has been around for quite some time now. New series are released every year. First tip is to find a theme. If your deck has no theme, it will not win a game. The theme in itself doesn't really matter, be creative. Examples are discard, combo and counter, big creatures with sneak attack, etc. Secondly, you need to have a win condition. Having a theme "discard" but nothing else will not make you win the game. An example here could be a combo that you have to stall for using discard. Or whatever you wish. Whenever you have to add cards to your deck, figure this out: "Is this beneficial for my win condition? Is it in my theme ?". If the answer is no, that card has no place in your deck (even if it is really good). Stick to 60 cards. That's the third tip. Granted, there are some specialty decks that require over 200 cards, but then that's their theme. If it's not your theme, stick to 60 cards. Why, you may ask. There is a simple explanation. You can only have 4 cards with the same name in your deck. Say one of the cards is a must have to win. If you have 60 cards, there is about a 1 in 4 chance you will have the card in your hand when beginning the game. If you happen to have a 100 card deck, that chance drops to 1 in 6. Chances are very high you won't see the card all game. The 4th tip is sticking with 2 colors. Unless again, this is your theme ... You don't want to be mana screwed 80% of the games. I hope these simple tips will help you build a better deck. |
