Canoe polo, the unknown sports You probably never heard of it, but canoe polo is an actual sport with a world championship and national competitions in many countries. Canoe polo is a fast paced sports that some would describe as a mixture of rugby and handball. It's played in kayaks with a water polo ball. Players are allowed to handle the ball with their hands or the blade of the paddle. Goals are 2 meters (~78inch) above the surface of the water, and 1 team member is allowed to use his paddle to guard it. Obviously the winner is the one who scores the most goals, but don't be fooled, there's more to it than just paddling and scoring. Some interesting facts include the rule that a player in possession of the ball can be pushed (with 1 hand on the shoulder). If the player should go under, he'll have to use a technique called "Eskimo roll" to get himself upright again. Games only take 2 times 10 minutes (potentially followed by 2 times 3 minutes extra time with sudden death). But believe me, as a player, I can tell you 20 minutes gets you tired.
